Introducing the Catalinbread Zero Point, a flanger that takes you back to the roots of studio tape flanging. It’s a real-time effect, not just another typical modulation effect. This means it’s not about predictable swooshing sounds, but about creating a unique, immersive sound atmosphere.
The Zero Point comes with a single, powerful control that mimics the effect of pressing and holding your thumb on tape flange. When engaged, two delay lines subtly modulate against each other, simulating the comb filtering effect akin to the playback of two tape machines. Press and hold the Flange Push-Button and one delay line slowly shifts time towards the other, until your signal starts to cancel out, reaching the zero point!
The real magic happens when you release the Flange Push-Button. The delay line automatically falls, resulting in a wispy subtractive ‘thru-zero’ sound that creates a sense of space and mystery. It’s an effect that you’ve only heard on records before.
Power up the Zero Point in inverted phase mode for a dramatic subtractive flange effect. Or press and hold the Flange Push-Button while powering up to enter the positive phase mode, which sums the two delay lines and never cancels out. This mode is less dramatic but still very akin to tape. Both modes have their merits, and it’s ultimately up to your personal preference.
